Tractor-trailer driver charged with DUI in fatal Rt. 440 crash
A tractor-trailer driver from Brooklyn is accused of being under the influence when his truck rear-ended the vehicle of an Ocean Township man on Route 440, killing him, police said.
Investigators said Aleksander Isserovich, 38, was driving on Route 440 south Wednesday afternoon in Perth Amboy when his tractor-trailer rear-ended a Hyundai Sonata driven by Jason Appio, 45. The Sonata jolted forward, striking another passenger vehicle. The tractor-trailer then jackknifed and struck two other passenger cars.
Appio was taken to Raritan Bay Medical Center - Perth Amboy Division, where he was pronounced dead at 4:40 p.m., police said.
The drivers of the three other vehicles involved in the crash were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick and were treated for minor injuries.
Authorities said a 911 caller reported that the driver of a tractor-trailer was driving erratically on Route 440 before the crash.
Isserovich was charged with driving under the influence and was taken to Raritan Bay Medical Center - Perth Amboy Division. The extent of his injuries was not released.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call New Jersey State Trooper Rafael Castro at 908-725-0107 or Detective Donald Heck of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-8842.
