The Ridgefield Fire Department is cleaning up after a driver lost control and crashed into their firehouse on Monday.
Officials say the fire department was called about a smoking car into a building, and it turned out that building was their own fire department — Ridgefield Fire Dept. 1.
Photos show a white SUV that crashed into an entrance around 6 p.m., leaving the vending machine smashed and the cabinets inside the firehouse wrecked. It appears there is also damage to one of the bay doors. The entrance was boarded up and bricks were left on the ground.
No firefighters were inside at the time of the crash and there were no injuries. Officials say the driver, who is unnamed, refused medical attention, and said they weren't a member of the department.
The SUV was towed away. There is no word on how the driver lost control.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ridgefield police at 201-943-5210.
