Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli says that Arthur Lomando suffered severe head and leg injuries and was transported to Harlem Hospital for surgery. Lomando is accused of fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend Suzanne Bardzell.
According to Molinelli, Lomando confronted Bardzell in front of her home on Godwin Avenue just before 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Bardzell was apparently sitting in her car when Lomando allegedly smashed the window and stabbed her. The car was still running when police found her, according to Molinelli.
Lomando and Bardzell had been in a relationship for much of the past three years that had recently ended. Bardzell had taken a restraining order against Lomando that was issued on Oct. 14. Lomando apparently violated that restraining order a few days later, according to the prosecutor.
Lomando was previously a New York City police officer, but was let go from the department in 2004
Bardzell was a special education teacher in the Teaneck school district. She was previously married and is survived by two teenaged sons.
