The Airborne Tri-Team is training for this weekend's Suffolk County Marathon.
The team is training by running with a backpack filled with 45 pounds of equipment while doing a 23-mile run.
The mileage represents the roughly 22 veterans who die each day from suicide, plus an extra mile for support.
The focus of the team is to provide war veterans opportunities and to increase their self-esteem, all by being part of a team.
The marathon begins Sunday at 8 a.m.
