A Great Horned Owl freed in a remote field in Wayne is getting a second chance at life after weeks of rehabilitation.

The incident happened back on Nov. 27 at a parking lot and surrounding soccer fields that were flooded from the nearby Pompton River. 

Maintenance men came to check on the fields and found the owl stranded. 

Just after sunset, the owl was carried in a box to a soccer field surrounded by trees.

Katie Cupo, with Wayne Animal Control, was called in to help free the bird from the netting surrounding the soccer field.

One of the maintenance workers climbed a ladder and cut the net around the owl.

The bird was then transferred to the Raptor Trust in Millington, where the netting was removed and a leg injury was allowed to heal. 

The owl was released in the same area where he was found, and after an extended hospital stay, the owl is back home.
