New York authorities say that two men who have been charged with a deadly drive-by shooting on Interstate 80 last month are also accused in a similar shooting on Long Island.
Douglas Coudrey, 22, and Kenneth Regan, 21, proclaimed their innocence as they were paraded out in front of the media following their arrest Thursday. Nassau County authorities allege that the two men are members of a gang and are guilty of a series of crimes.
“These two individuals...have been identified as Latin Kings,” says Nassau County Detective Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick. “They recently have been on pretty much a criminal tear of armed robberies, carjackings and other sorts of crimes.”
Nassau County officials say that Coudrey and Regan shot and killed 27-year-old Justin Gotlieb outside his home in Plainview, New York, in an apparent road rage incident. Authorities say that there was not any connection between the victim and Coudrey and Regan.
News 12 New Jersey has previously reported on Coudrey and Regan when they were arrested in connection with the I-80 shooting in Lodi. Bergen County authorities say that the pair followed their victim, Louis Perez, from New York into New Jersey.
They allegedly pulled alongside Perez’s car and opened fire, killing Perez and injuring a passenger. Police say that Perez was targeted and knew his allege attackers. They were arrested a few days later in Suffolk County on Long Island.
Police say that a .22-caliber semi-automatic pistol rifle was found in their vehicle – a weapon allegedly used in both shootings.
