The Dunkin' Donuts in Ocean City has reopened after being closed down when one of its workers was confirmed to have hepatitis A.
According to Cape May County health officials, a worker at the 962 West Ave. location was potentially infectious with the disease between Jan. 27 and Jan. 31.
So far, there have been no new cases of the disease.
The store has since been sanitized.
Health officials say while the risk of infection to customers who ate or drank at the shop during that time is low, it is recommended that they receive “post-exposure prophylaxis” or PEP, which “consists of hepatitis A vaccine and/or immune globulin.”
Potentially exposed customers should try to receive the vaccine no later than Feb. 14 to be effective, officials say.
Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease, which is usually spread when a person ingests fecal matter, even in microscopic amounts. Symptoms may include fever, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, joint pain and jaundice.
