State police have confirmed a portion of a human skull was discovered on a beach in Egg Harbor Township.

According to state police, a man walking his dog found the skull Monday around 9:30 a.m. on the Egg Harbor Township side of the Ocean Drive Bridge.

State police say the skull was found in the area of tidal water, which leads police to believe it may have washed up on the beach.

The skull has been turned over to the Southern Regional Medical Examiner's Office for further examination.
