State budget cuts hit sour note with New Jersey mayors
More than 100 mayors and council members from throughout New Jersey took their complaints about the state budget to Trenton Tuesday.
Some of them feel that the cuts and talk of consolidating services took them by surprise. Although the state is restoring nearly $15,000 to towns of less than 10,000 residents, areas like Lambertville will still lose out on $250,000.
Some Trenton lawmakers say they are considering alternatives to cutting aid to municipalities. Solutions include an early retirement program and ending the property tax rebate program.
