An employee at a South Orange school is accused of mishandling a child with special needs.
Parents were told in a letter from Montrose Early Childhood Center that a contracted paraprofessional was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the allegations they said happened on July 18.
In the letter, Ronald Taylor, the superintendent of schools, says the district notified the child’s parent immediately Tuesday as well as police and New Jersey Division of Child Protection.
“Our administrators and educators are working to ensure a safe learning environment for our youngest learners every day. We take all allegations of a child being mistreated very seriously,” Taylor wrote in the letter.
Taylor also wrote that if allegations are true, the district will not hesitate to do what needs to be done to protect the children at the school.
This is the second incident coming out of Montrose Early Childhood Center. Back in April, News 12 New Jersey reported a story of a child allegedly being dangled by his ankles by a teacher who was later fired.
