Solemn ceremonies held in NJ, NYC on anniversary of 9/11
Five years after the 9/11 terror attacks on New York City?s World Trade Center, solemn ceremonies were held across New Jersey and in New York City Monday to remember the nearly 3,000 people killed.
In the area where the Twin Towers once stood in the financial district of Manhattan, spouses and partners of the 2,749 people who died at the trade center read the names of the victims. Families and friends of those killed were also at the site to lay flowers to remember their loved ones. Moments of silence were held at 8:46 a.m., 9:03 a.m., 9:59 a.m. and 10:29 a.m., the times when the planes struck the towers and the towers fell.
A moment of silence was also held at 8:46 a.m. in the American and United terminals of Logan International Airport in Boston. Both flights took off from Logan before slamming into the towers.
The city of Bayonne also unveiled 9/11 memorial of a tear drop falling through the center of one of the twin towers, created by Russian artist Zurab Tsereteli. The memorial stands 100 feet tall and was shipped from Russia in pieces. All the names of the victims from the 9/11 terror attacks as well as those who died in the 1993 world trade center bombings are included. Tsereteli says art is the best way to reflect and have hope.
