Hundreds of New Jersey residents were scrambling to get into New York Monday after a series of mishaps caused commuter delays and disruptions.
First there was a broken rail near the Journal Square PATH Station in Jersey City. People had to rush to the ferry terminal as an alternative.
Pictures obtained by News 12 New Jersey showed that commuters were lined up a block from Exchange Place to the terminal waiting to get on the boat.
Jersey City resident Jeff Durocher says that he decided to work from home instead.
“I went back home and emailed folks at the office,” he says. “I was one of the first…to find out PATH to World Trade was closed.
Then an Amtrak train became disabled in the transit tunnel between New Jersey and New York. This caused delays with NJ Transit.
“When I have to go for work in the morning, if it’s delayed by a minute or two, it makes a difference, because in New York you have to take another train,” a commuter tells News 12.
There were even more rail service issues due to the second round of track repairs at New York Penn Station. The changes impact NJ Transit service in Hoboken, as well as LIRR service.
Amtrak also made changes, including canceling two trains between New York and Washington, D.C.
The Penn Station repairs are expected to last until late May.
