Students at the Sacred Heart School in Jersey City returned to class this morning for the first time since Tuesday’s deadly shooting.
Windows with bullet holes are being replaced as class is happening, just across the street from the now boarded-up grocery store where the shooting took place.
It certainly wasn’t easy for a grandmother to bring her 10-year-old granddaughter back today.
“It’s scary,” says Mrs. Frazier. “Just not for my grandchild, but for all the kids. She appears fine you know, at first she was scared. I reassured her she was safe and that someone will be here this afternoon to pick her up because they couldn’t take their coats and bookbags home.”

Jersey City Public Safety Director James Shea says a stronger officer presence will hopefully put students and faculty at ease.
“We have to return a sense of normalcy,” says Shea. Now, we know everybody is going to be a little jittery and we want them to feel comfortable sending their kids to school so they’re going to see a lot of police around the schools for a while until we get everybody back to normal.”
Mayor Steven Fulop was at the school as well this morning and tweeted he was visiting other area schools too.
