Road project work stoppage angers drivers, business in Brick
One of the state-funded road projects that is on hold in Brick Township is angering drivers and business owners.
The Exit 91 project was scheduled to wrap up in February 2017. Brick Township Mayor John Ducey says he has not heard of a new date when the project will finish or how long the work stoppage could last.
Cones, barrels, torn-up asphalt and potholes are taking a toll on drivers.
The construction project took out the right lane along Burnt Tavern Road, creating more of a challenge for drivers who want to enter or leave businesses along the side of the road.
"It's like driving through an off-road track trying to get into my shop," says Chris Kelly, who owns KD Automotive in Brick off the Garden State Parkway at Exit 91.
Ducey says he's taking calls every day from angry drivers, but since it's a state-funded project there is nothing he or the township can do.
Last week, Gov. Chris Christie ordered that all state-funded transportation projects be stopped until lawmakers can agree on a plan to replenish the trust fund.
