Law enforcement officials in Monmouth County are trying a new tactic to combat a recent rash of "swatting" incidents.

"Swatting" refers to when a person makes a fake emergency call, with the goal of getting a large police presence to respond to a location.

Monmouth County Crime Stoppers is now offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the suspect responsible for these false public alarm incidents.

In the last few weeks, several malls and schools in Monmouth County and across New Jersey have been placed under lockdown or evacuated because of 911 calls reporting bomb threats or armed suspects. All of these calls have turned out to be false alarms.
