Restaurant rolls back prices to celebrate 60 years in Paramus
The Fireplace restaurant in Paramus has been serving up burgers since 1956, and to celebrate its 60-year milestone, the owner rolled back prices to those of decades past.
For part of the day, cheeseburgers cost 35 cents, hot dogs went for a quarter, and 20 cents could buy an order of fries. The tasty deal had customers waiting in a line that stretched out the door and around the restaurant.
"We really have generations of customers in the area and state," says owner Patrick Reilly. "They've supported us for so long, so this is a thank you back to our customers."
One of those customers, Pam Singer, was there when The Fireplace opened in 1956. She was just 9 years old.
"I was with my parents," Singer recalls. "This was a big deal to come, because there were no fast food restaurants at this time... It was jammed even then, just like now!"
The price roll-back event at The Fireplace lasted five hours. In that time, the restaurant expected to serve about 5,000 customers and 7,000 burgers.
