Two affordable housing buildings are in development in Bedford Park, but some people in the community have expressed concerns over the location.
Camba Housing Venture is planning to begin construction on two new buildings this spring: one at 257-271 East 202nd St. and another at 258-278 East 203rd St.
It will create 323 affordable and supportive units between the two properties.
At a community board meeting earlier this month, residents of the neighborhood still had concerns about traffic safety and congestion and who would benefit from the in-house city services.
The development is just across the street from P.S. 8, a school with a population the community board says could potentially benefit from the building.

Another major concern that was expressed was over fire safety on the relatively narrow streets. Camba hired Milrose Consultants to conduct a study last year that determined it would not present any abnormal or unusual challenges as a result of their location.

In its presentation to the community earlier this month, Camba assured Community Board 7 will have access to meeting spaces. There will also be a community Housing Connect lottery training for residents, and it will collaborate with Community Board 7 to host job fairs for construction, permanent and Camba citywide jobs. Community Board 7 says it will be sure to make sure the promises are fulfilled.

Construction is expected to be completed in June 2022.
News 12 reached out to Camba for comment and it said in part,” "CHV and Camba will work with local shelters in Community Board 7 to target housing opportunities in their communities. Our development of affordable and supportive housing has provided part of the solution to end homelessness in New York City."
