New Jersey is among a dozen states considering a regional gas tax to combat climate change, according to a report by Politico.

The report states that governors from several northeastern and mid-Atlantic states want to use the money generated from the tax to fund transportation projects and build electric vehicle charging stations.

Politico says that the states involved are Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, New York, Maine and New Hampshire.

It was not clear how the tax would be implemented.

New Jersey already has a tax on gasoline, although Gov. Phil Murphy has said that the tax would not be increased this year.
