Report: More than 500 New Jersey bridges flagged as in need of repairs
More than 500 bridges across the Garden State are in immediate need of repair, according to a report by the American Road and Transportation Builders Association.
New Jersey has about 6,700 bridges – meaning about 8 percent of them are in need of repair. The survey says that about 40 of these bridges are on interstate highways and see 100,000 drivers every day.
In 2014 more than 2,400 bridges in New Jersey were deemed "structurally deficient."
The group put out its annual report this week and found that more than 47,000 bridges across the United States are in need of repair. It is estimated that drivers cross these structurally deficient bridges more than 178 million times every day.

The report projects that it will take 80 years to fix each bridge on the list. The group says that repairs are the slowest they have been in five years.
But federal officials say that they do not agree with this assessment. A spokeswoman for the Federal Highway Administration tells CNN that bridge conditions in the United States have been improving every year.
The full report can be found on the American Road and Transportation Builders Association’s website.
