Authorities searching for a missing Hightstown woman have discovered human bones inside a suitcase found in a Staten Island pond.
The woman, 27-year-old Amy Giordano, has been missing since her son was found abandoned in a parking lot last summer.
Two men were charged in her disappearance last week, including the man with whom she was having an affair. Millstone resident Rosario DiGirolamo was charged with murder.
A second man, John A. Russo Jr., was charged with tampering with evidence in Giordano's death. His attorney says his client helped police in the case, leading them to the area on Staten Island where the bones were found.
Residents in Hightstown say they are relieved the mystery may soon be over. Some say they've known all along that Giordano met with foul play.
"Everybody kind of knew that she didn't disappear and take off and that something bad happened," said one Hightstown resident.
The Mercer County prosecutor's office says the skeletal remains found at the pond Sunday hadn't been identified. DNA testing is being performed.
