Protests are being held this weekend in New Jersey over the death of George Floyd, the unarmed black man killed by a white police officer during an arrest in Minneapolis.
But while protests over his death in New York City have led to clashes and violence, rallies in the Garden State have been peaceful with little damage reported.
A protest was held in Rahway Sunday morning, as protests held signs that said "Black Lives Matter" and "Justice for George Floyd."
There were reports of damage at the 1st Police Precinct in Newark, but the only noticeable damage seen by News 12 was a crack in the glass on the front door. It has not been confirmed if this happened during the protest.
Demonstrations began Saturday morning at City Hall, with a rally organized by People Come Together, followed by March by the People's Organization for Progress in the afternoon.
The rallies brought out hundreds of protesters demanding justice for Floyd and a change in the way policing is done. They marched on foot from the Essex County Courthouse to the federal building in Newark.
An evening News 12 crew did see some damage to a police car in Newark, and images showed an American flag being burned and a statue of George Washington being spray-painted.
Police also sectioned off certain areas near a police station on Clinton Avenue and areas near other precincts, appearing to keep the buildings from being damaged.
More protests are scheduled in New Jersey Sunday, including one in Long Branch at Pier Village scheduled for 2:30 p.m., one in Trenton at the State House at 3 p.m. and one in Metuchen at 4 p.m.
