Prosecutors: Stabbing suspect charged with attempted murder
A central New Jersey man faces attempted murder charges after he allegedly stabbed another man several times.
Monmouth County prosecutors say 21-year-old Anthony Butts, of Neptune Township, also faces two weapons counts stemming from the attack. His bail was set at $500,000 and it wasn't known Sunday if he has retained an attorney.
Prosecutors say the stabbing occurred around 1 a.m. Friday in Asbury Park.
The victim, identified only as a 25-year-old Asbury Park resident, remains hospitalized in critical condition, and further details on his injuries have not been disclosed.
Prosecutors have not disclosed a possible motive for the attack or said what led them to identify Butts as a suspect. If convicted of the attempted murder charge, he would face up to 20 years in prison.
