The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office has announced a mother has been arrested and charged with the homicide death of her 4-year-old son.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Elina Gutti, 38, of South Bound Brook, was arrested Saturday around 2:28 a.m. after police received a call from her home on Cedar Street for Gutti reporting she had unexplained injuries on her wrist.
Police say they located a 4-year-old, identified as Aiden Singhania, with severe lacerations in the child's first-floor bedroom of the residence.
Despite attempted life saving measures, the boy was pronounced dead a short time later. A post-mortem examination will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.
Gutti was charged with first-degree murder among other charges. She will be transported to the Somerset County Jail once released from the hospital, pending a bail detention hearing.
Anyone with information relating to the homicide is urged to contact the Somerset County Prosecutors Office Major Crimes Unit at (908) 231-7100 or the South Bound Brook Police Department at (732) 356-0087.
