The price to travel to and from New York City could be going up.
Published reports claim the Port Authority plans to increase tolls from $6 to $8 for motorists using the Hudson River and Staten Island crossings. The hike is expected to take place in early 2008.
In a statement, a Port Authority spokesman said, ?For nearly a year, we?ve stated that in order to pay for the massive construction projects the region needs and the rapidly rising security costs that eventually a fare increase would be necessary.?
Many drivers say they are unhappy about the toll increase. They?re wondering where the money really goes.
Tolls aren?t the only fare expected to increase in 2008. PATH train tickets will reportedly increase by 50 cents from $1.50 to $2.
The Port Authority plans to reveal its plan to the public Thursday.
