Police set up sting to catch package thief
A sting operation in Bergen County left an alleged package thief behind bars.
Carlstadt police say a resident on Hackensack Street reported that several packages were stolen from her porch between Nov. 14 and 27. Other residents also reported similar thefts.
Detectives set up trap for the thief by arranging the delivery of a decoy package to the victim’s address.
Officers say that they observed Anthony Raspavolo walk up to the porch, take the package and then place it in a small shopping cart alongside other packages. Officers arrested him a short time later.
Carlstadt police say Raspavolo told them that he stole the packages to support his heroin addiction. He was also found with drug paraphernalia, according to police.
Raspavolo faces several charges including theft and drug possession.
