Police seek public's help to solve hit-and-runs
Police in several communities along the Jersey Shore are asking for the public?s help in solving four hit-and-run accidents.
Authorities say the four incidents occurred within the last two weeks. A woman was injured on Route 33 in Wall and a man remains in critical condition after being struck on Route 9 in Lakewood.
Investigators also say a woman was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Marlboro while walking along Route 520. According to police, a fourth person was struck after he got off a bus on Route 9 in Manalapan.
Some believe the hit-and-run accidents occur because those who got hit couldn?t judge how fast the cars were coming. Others say the accidents may have occurred because of distracted drivers.
In an effort to prevent accidents, fencing has been put up in some known problem areas on Route 9 to promote crossing at the intersection. Manalapan also received a state grant to promote pedestrian safety.
Police say the key to pedestrian and driver safety is to be aware of surroundings.
