Police say a mother and her daughter may have been targeted in a shooting Tuesday night in Linden.
Linden Police Capt. James Sarnicki says the shooting occurred at around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday on the 900 block of Middlesex Street.
The mother and daughter, ages 41 and 15, were taken to University Hospital in Newark. The mother underwent surgery for upper body and pelvic gunshot wounds. Her daughter was treated for graze wounds and released.
Sarnicki says the two victims were approached by a man as they entered their car. The man exchanged words with the younger victim before opening fire at the car, hitting both victims.
The man is described as a black male wearing a dark bubble-type jacket with white lines or lettering and a scarf covering part of his face. He's described as heavy or husky-built, 6 feet tall and in his 30s.
The victims drove their vehicle to Bower Street and East Henry Street, running over a traffic sign and driving through a yard before striking a utility pole.
Investigators believe the two victims were targeted and say there doesn't appear to be other danger to the community.
Up to $10,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call Linden Detectives Ken Mikolajczyk at 908-474-8542 or Steve Zevlikaris at 908-474-8520.
