An arrest has been made in a Norwalk cold case eight years after a man was found shot to death in the snow.
Karl Savage, 30, was found shot to death outside Nathaniel Ely School, not far from the Roodner Court public housing complex, on Feb. 3, 2010. Savage's mother told News 12 at the time that his coat, jewelry, wallet and phone were all taken.
Police arrested 33-year-old David McBride, of Bridgeport, on Thursday and have charged him with murder in connection with Savage's death.
McBride was already in custody on pending narcotics charges and was arraigned late Thursday. Police haven't released details about what led to his arrest, and the warrant in the case is sealed.
McBride's arrest is the third cold case murder arrest in Norwalk in recent months. Police tell News 12 that cold cases are not forgotten about and that detectives continue to try to bring the victims' families closure.
"Within our detective bureau there is a special investigation squad that's newly formed, and one of their duties is to investigate some of the older homicides that we have," says Norwalk Police Lt. Terry Blake.
Blake credits that as part of the reason for the three arrests since the fall. The other two recent cold case arrests were in September: one for another 2010 shooting death and the other in a 2012 slaying.
Norwalk police ask anyone with information to call their tip line at 203-854-3111. Anonymous tips can be sent online at the Norwalk Police Department website. Anonymous text tips can be submitted by typing "NPD" into the text field, followed by the message, and sending it to CRIMES (274637).
