Police in East Rutherford say the grace period is coming to an end for drivers who kept money after a Brinks truck dropped it Thursday over Route 3 west.
Police originally didn't want to press charges, but $189,000 remains missing
According to police, several people have come forward since then, and over $104,000 has been returned.
Police say the truck's back door malfunctioned and two bags of money fell out, one with $370,000 in cash and the other with $140,000.
Drivers on both sides of the highway stopped traffic to try and grab some of the money. Police responded to at least one crash because of the incident.
Since the money technically belongs to Brinks, it’s illegal for drivers to keep it.
