Police in East Brunswick are calling for an internal investigation into how first responders handled a motor vehicle accident that left two people dead.

Police in East Brunswick are calling for an internal investigation into how first responders handled a motor vehicle accident that left two people dead.
The crash happened Sunday around 7:30 p.m. on Old Bridge Turnpike.
According to authorities, the preliminary investigation revealed the collision involved an East Brunswick Fire Department emergency vehicle and the vehicle of a South River couple.
Authorities say the couple's car collided with the emergency vehicle. The husband and wife were pronounced dead at a hospital. Their names are being withheld until relatives have been notified.
Middlesex County prosecutors now say their office wasn't notified in a timely manner.
The chief of police says the Office of Professional Standards will look into the handling of the incident.
