(12/13/06) NEWARK ? A former Tinton Falls police detective is suing the New Jersey State Police Department in a case of alleged cop vs. cop brutality.
Gary Wade says he was traveling to work in an unmarked police vehicle when he was pulled over. According to Wade, he attempted to tell the trooper who initiated the stop he was a police officer and tried to show him his badge. However, Wade claims the trooper hit him on the head and pepper sprayed him.
State police say they pulled Wade over for speeding. The detective was fired from the force for an obstruction of justice conviction stemming from the traffic stop. He is now suing state police for $1 million.
