Police: 4 teens hurt when carjacked minivan crashes in Newark
Authorities say four teenage boys riding in a carjacked minivan were injured when it crashed into a car in Newark.
The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, shortly after Essex County Sheriff's officers had spotted the minivan. It had been reported stolen at gunpoint earlier Saturday.
The 15-year-old driver sped away when he saw the officers and the minivan soon crashed into the car. It then struck two parked cars before it flipped over.
A 14-year-old passenger ran off but was soon captured. The driver and the two other passengers, ages 15 and 16, were arrested at the scene.
All four teens were treated at a hospital for undisclosed injuries. Each was charged with receiving stolen property.
Authorities say the 14-year-old was also wanted on an unrelated theft charge and for questioning in four other carjackings.
