State police say one person died following a car crash on the Southern State Parkway Friday morning.

They say the crash happened near Exit 17 going eastbound.

Police say Ashlee Tessono, 28, of North Baldwin, was heading east on the Southern State when she lost control of her vehicle. Police say the vehicle left the roadway, striking a tree. They say the vehicle flipped over and Tessono was ejected.

Tessono was transported to Nassau University Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.

The accident shut down two of the four eastbound lanes for hours.
