Perth Amboy residents gathered on Friday to protest against ongoing violence that some believe the mayor and police are not doing enough to address.
During the event, organizer Pauro Venguz reminded the community of when 11-year-old Smylin Hernandez was stabbed while on his way home from school.
People who resided in the area for their entire lives say that quality of life has been going down.
"I was born here in this town. I lived here all my life. So, I see the changes in this town and the changes that we are getting are not good,” said resident Maria Vera.
News 12 reached out to the mayor for comment, who has yet to respond.
