Officers in Paterson?s police department are at risk of losing their guns unless they can finish annual recertification by Monday.
Guidelines call for officers to pass two firearms qualifications each year. Paterson?s department held their first of the annual certifications over the summer. Officials say renovations at their firing range have delayed the second training program.
The range has been temporarily reopened for the week and will stay open all weekend so officers can recertify. All 500 officers on Paterson?s force have until 6:00 a.m. Monday morning to complete the process.
Any officer who cannot finish recertification by the deadline will lose their service revolver until qualifications are finished.
