Many parents waited anxiously today, hoping their child's name would be one of the only 100 children admitted to the Community Charter School of Paterson in its annual admission lottery.

About 140 parents waited and hoped that their child?s name would be called.

Many parents say they did not want their children to go to public schools in the city, citing overcrowding and the quality of the education.

"It's exciting because parents are here because they want to seal the future of their children's education," said Principal Marnie McKoy. "At the same time, you know that there are some people who are not going to be chosen who are going to walk away very disappointed."

The school currently teaches kindergarten through fourth grade, but the school says they plan to expand through eighth grade soon.
