Owners of ‘Westfield Watcher’ home want to have it torn down
The owners of the Westfield home dubbed "The Watcher House" are petitioning town officials to allow the home to be demolished and build two new homes in its place.
The home on the Boulevard became infamous after the owners started to receive creepy letters from someone who claimed to be watching the house and the family. Although the family has owned the home since 2014, they never moved in because they were too afraid.
The family has tried to sell the home, but its reputation has made it difficult.
Now the family's attorney has presented a proposal to the Planning Board asking for minor changes to the town ordinances that would allow the owners to tear down the 110-year-old home and build two smaller ones in its place.
A public meeting was held Monday night, and many members of the public say that they are opposed to the idea.
"I'm here to support whoever would say that they don't want to tear down that beautiful home across the street and replace it with two little 'McMansions' to make a quick buck and destroy the character of the neighborhood," says neighbor Tom Higgins. "There's a vehicle for solving financial problems and it's not the zoning or planning board."
The owners are also in a legal battle with the previous owners over the letters.
The planning board did not make a decision on the proposal Monday night.
