TNT Fireworks in Mount Laurel was packed on Friday with customers stopping by to purchase supplies for the Independence Day holiday weekend.
Some fireworks were made legal to purchase in New Jersey a few years ago. But before anyone sets them off this Independence Day, there are some things to keep in mind.
The New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs says that handheld or ground-based sparklers, snakes and glow worms, smoke devices and noisemakers like poppers and snappers are legal.
All other fireworks require a permit. Consumer Affairs says that it is best to leave those types of fireworks to professionals.
Many police departments in the state have issued warnings asking residents to play it safe when it comes to using fireworks, especially around children.
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission says that in 2020 there were 2,500 fireworks-related injuries. Two-thirds of them occurred around the Fourth of July holiday.
Parents at TNT Fireworks say that they are making sure that their kids are safe.
“I always tell them to stand back and let me do the work because stuff can pop off and set on fire,” says Ted Lockhart. I’ll do the work and they can sit back and relax and enjoy themselves.”
Many fireworks events in 2020 were canceled because of the pandemic. A list of many fireworks events in New Jersey can be found HERE.
