Officials: New Parkway entrances should ease traffic in Brick
Officials hope new traffic ramps leading to the Garden State Parkway will ease some traffic in Brick Township.
The three new ramps are near Burnt Tavern and Lanes Mill roads. The area used to host at least two jug handles and various traffic lights that would back up traffic heading to the northbound lanes of the highway.
The opening of the new lanes marks the end of a three-year road project to improve traffic flow in the area. It was delayed for a time by Gov. Chris Christie who halted non-essential road work due to a lack of funds.
Brick Mayor John Ducey says that he wants people traveling through the area to pay attention to the new traffic patterns. He says that the new patterns may be confusing for the first few times through.
“They just have to pay attention to the new lights that are up, new ramps that have never been here before,” Ducey says. “It’s a little daunting.”
Crews will finish paving Burnt Tavern Road in the construction zone by next month.
Editor's Note: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that the project was delayed by a government shutdown.
