Officials believe man who robbed pharmacy sought OxyContin
Officials say they believe that the armed masked man who robbed Alltown Pharmacy in Eatontown was looking for drugs like OxyContin.
The robbery occurred around 7 p.m. Tuesday at the pharmacy on Wyckoff Road in Eatontown.
There are reports that police officers may have shot at the suspect's getaway car, but officials were not able to confirm if this was true.
Employees kept the doors locked during business hours Wednesday, opening only for customers as detectives searched the area.
Officials say the suspect escaped through the back door, hopped a fence and then ran through the parking lot to a getaway car.
The getaway car was found nearby in the parking lot of Stony Hill Apartments with broken glass, apparently from the shots exchanged with police.
Investigators say they have a suspect but have not released his name. News 12 New Jersey has confirmed though that the suspect is being treated at a New York hospital for a bullet wound.
The pharmacy is located close to the Monmouth Mall, where a stabbing recently happened during the busy holiday shopping season.
