Two graduate students were arrested on Thursday during a pro-Palestinian protest at Princeton University. The incident was recorded by an activist at the protest who blurred the faces of some of the people who appear in the video.
Princeton officials say protesters set up a tent encampment. Authorities warned the protesters to leave the area before the arrests took place. Officials say two students were arrested for trespassing. The video shows they were handcuffed with zip ties and led away by officers while protesters chanted “Disclose, divest.”
Protesters are demanding that Princeton University divest from corporations that support Israel and its military operations.
The incident comes just one day after Princeton put out a message about the school’s policy on protests, which warned that anyone involved in an encampment or other unlawful disruptive conduct – and refuses to stop after a warning – would be arrested and immediately barred from campus.
Several colleges and universities across the country have had similar protests encampments and arrests this week, including Columbia, Harvard, Yale and the University of Southern California.
