A grand jury has voted not to charge two law enforcement officers who shot a 14-year-old boy they said pointed a gun at them during a foot chase in Trenton.
The attorney general's office said Monday that the state grand jury voted not to file charges against a Mercer County sheriff's officer and state trooper for the Aug. 7 shooting.
The boy was shot three times in the legs and buttocks and charged as a juvenile with aggravated assault and gun charges. He will be tried in juvenile court.
The attorney general's office says that the officers responded after a ShotSpotter system reported shots fired in the area. The officers said they ordered two teens and a man to stop, but one teen took off running. The officers said he then pointed a gun at the officers and they opened fire.
