A Union roller rink where a 16-year-old was killed in December will remain closed until a final decision on its future is made.
Jean D'Haiti was fatally shot in the head one day after Christmas at Skate 22. The rink has been closed since the shooting, and a judge ruled Thursday to keep it that way for the time being.
Skate 22 could potentially be closed for good. In defending the decision to suspend the rink's license, lawyers cited a long history of police calls involving Skate 22 in the past year alone.
Attorneys for Philip Walker, the rink's owner, say he has done everything asked of him by the city, including providing security. News 12 New Jersey has learned Walker is three months behind on his rent.
Skate 22 has been operating for 22 years. Union has shut it down twice before, in 1995 and 1997 respectively.
