A North Jersey teen is raising money for Ukrainian refugees by selling T-shirts in front of Hot Bagels Abroad in Clifton.
Katherine Mao, 13, began selling the shirts last weekend in front of the bagel shop her family owns. She says the idea came to her when she noticed many customers were Ukrainian refugees themselves.
"I feel so lucky to have what I have. I feel for all these people who don't have the things that I have and things they need. They don't have food, they don't have a place to stay, they don't have necessities,” said Mao.
The shirts, which she designed herself, go for $10 each. Mao says she has received many donations so far.
All the proceeds go toward the Ukraine American Youth Association and Holy Ascension Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral.
The Mao family has also helped some refugees with housing and jobs.
