A Bergen County school has decided that all graduating students, regardless of gender, will wear the same color graduation gowns.

Glen Rock school officials say that they wanted to remove pressure from students who may feel uncomfortable by having to choose which color gown to wear. The original colors were red, white or black. 

Now all students will wear red graduation gowns.

“Not a huge outcry, but certainly we have had some students, granted the minority, who feel that it puts them in a tough spot to have to make decisions where they may not want to wear the gown of the gender that is traditional to them,” said Principal John Arlotta.

The school also says that the decision was made as way to keep up with the changing times in the United States. They says that they strive to have an open and progressive learning environment.
