Roger Clemens' alleged steroid abuse has prompted the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center to remove the pitcher's jersey from display.
Museum Director David Kaplan says the decision was not made to pass judgment on Clemens. Rather, he says, the jersey was removed prior to Clemens' congressional appearance in order to not steal attention from a display celebrating the Yankees' modern day dynasty.
"We have a lot of kids coming through here who are asking questions we're not prepared to answer," says Kaplan. "We don't avoid the subject, but we do it in the proper context."
According to Kaplan, the museum has held educational seminars on the dangers of steroids. One of those seminars included a lecture from the father of Yankees star Derek Jeter. Jeter's father is a drug and alcohol counselor.
Fans have mixed reactions to the move. Some call it sacrilegious to attach Yogi Berra's name to the drug scandal. Others say it's a premature move since the allegations against the seven-time Cy Young Award-winner have not yet been proven.
