For the first time in a decade, the murder rate in Newark has hit 100 for the year. On Thursday, a 21-year-old man was fatally shot in the torso outside a local market. Mayor Corey Booker says the shooting is unacceptable, but says police are making progress against crime. Booker says in the past three months, the number of shootings has gone down and more guns are off the streets.
Police say the shooting victim had just been released from prison. Booker says more alternatives need to be made available for ex-prisoners who are reentering society.
