A Netcong restaurant manager says that a nearly monthlong boil water advisory is impacting business.

Netcong officials told residents in town to start boiling their water for consumption on June 4, due to water infrastructure upgrades. The advisory continues three weeks later.

Restaurant owners in town say that they are spending thousands of dollars a week renting portable, potable water tanks for their businesses.

Don Jose Mexican restaurant manager David Oliveros says that the entire experience has been stressful.

“Everything has to be cans now – all the Cokes we have to do cans. Bottle water, we give them out to people. We can’t do any unsweetened iced teas or lemonades. And then also the ice. We have it connected to the water tank, so I think we’re on our second water tank already and it’s not cheap,” Oliveros says.

The manager says that some potential customers have entered the restaurant and then left when they see the water tank because they do not want to risk drinking contaminated water.

Netcong Mayor Joseph Nametko tells News 12 New Jersey that he hopes to have the advisory lifted by July 1.

The project entails a complete overhaul of the town’s water system, including replacing water mains, water valves and fire hydrants. The entire project is expected to be done by the end of the year.
