A mother and daughter were arrested after nearly 90 pets were found inside of a home on 52nd Street in West New York.
According to West New York Mayor Felix Roque, there were 82 cats and five dogs found inside cages in a room that was only about 9 feet by 9 feet.
"The conditions of the animals were terrible," says Roque. "It was the worst conditions I've ever seen. The smell was just horrendous."
West New York Health Director Dr. Gina Miranda-Diaz says the cats were in cages covering a 12-foot wall and the dogs were hiding in closets. She isn't sure how many can be saved.
Authorities are searching for a third woman in connection with the case.
The women will be charged with 86 counts of animal cruelty. Authorities say the three were taking money to supposedly adopt and care for unwanted animals.
