The Montclair Parking Authority plans to raise on-street parking meters fees to begin 2007.To begin the New Year, parking fees stand to increase from 50 to 75 cents. The increased fees are thought to be an effort to encourage off-street parking. However, shoppers on Bloomfield Avenue say the fees would only force consumers to shop other places outside the city. Some residents also say the increased fees along with the upscale and trendy shops give them the feeling officials are trying to move out the lower to middle class. The new parking rate proposals have not yet been finalized. The Montclair Parking Authority is expected to make a decision in January.
